LOGAN — The man who died Saturday after missing a turn on an ATV and driving over a 15-foot drop-off has been identified as Cassidy Wakely, 33, of Logan.

Wakely was riding the four-wheeler in the Franklin Basin area of Logan Canyon with friends about noon when he crashed, the Cache County Sheriff's Office said. The trail is about four miles off U.S. 89.

"Investigators have determined that speed was the major factor in the cause of the accident," the office said in a Monday news release.

Bystanders attempted CPR on Wakely, and emergency crews continued to try to revive him after they arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wakely was wearing a helmet but sustained significant "internal injuries," in the accident, the sheriff's office said.
