FBI treating as homicide body found on tribal land in eastern Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — The FBI is investigating after a woman's body was found on the road Wednesday inside the boundaries of eastern Utah's Uintah-Ouray Reservation.

The agency is treating the death as a homicide, Sandra Barker, spokeswoman for the FBI's Salt Lake City office, said in a prepared statement. The body was found somewhere northwest of Whiterocks, a census-designated area home to 350 people, according to the statement.

Barker said the victim's body was found "under suspicious circumstances," but provided no other details.

The Duchesne County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Indian Affairs also were investigating.
