Utah State volleyball splits results on final day in Fayetteville

Utah State women’s volleyball split results on the final day of the Arkansas classic, picking up a 3-1 victory against CSU Bakersfield before falling to host Arkansas, 3-0.

Senior outside Lauren Anderson led the Aggies against CSUB, totaling 22 kills, seven digs, three blocks and a team-best four service aces. The performance was Anderson’s third of her career with 20 or more kills in a match. Overall, Utah State hit .280 (59-14-161) and totaled 11 service aces.

Utah State also had a pair record double-doubles during the match against CSU Bakersfield as senior outside Rachel Gale-Hammond logged 12 kills and 10 digs, and junior setter Kassidy Johnson tallied 50 assists and 12 digs.

In the tournament finale, Arkansas hit .422 (53-10-102) to Utah State’s .175 (28-10-103) en route to the Aggies first loss of 2017. Senior opposite Kayla DeCoursey led the Aggies with seven kills, and Anderson and junior middle Lauren O’Brien were just behind with six kills apiece.

Following the tournament, Anderson and junior libero Tasia Taylor were named to the Arkansas Classic all-tournament team. Anderson finished the weekend with 41 kills, 18 digs and five service aces, hitting .279 (41-10-111). Taylor recorded double-digit digs in all three matches, totaling 53 on the weekend and averaging 5.30 per set.

USU returns to the court next weekend, hosting the Utah State Invitational on Kirby Court at the Wayne Estes Center. The Aggies will welcome Pacific, Montana State and UC Santa Barbara to Logan, with matches scheduled to begin on Friday at 4 p.m. MT. USU will face Pacific on Friday at 7 p.m., the Bobcats of Montana State on Saturday at 12 p.m., and UCSB in the tournament finale on Saturday at 7 p.m.
