High school football: American Leadership overcomes mistakes to defeat Layton Christian

Photo gallery: The Eagles of American Leadership Academy improved their early-season record to 1-1 with a win over the Eagles from Layton Christian 17-10 on Friday in Spanish Fork.

ALA committed three drive-stopping penalties in the first half alone. Additionally, a personal foul extended a LCA drive ultimately leading to LCA’s only touchdown of the game.

At halftime ALA head coach Nate Porter remarked “Stop making mistakes” when asked what he would tell his team during the intermission. Asked the same question LCA head coach Andru Jones replied, “Enjoy the moment. We only play 10 games so have fun.”

In the second half, the only score came on a 1-yard rush from ALA senior quarterback Ethan Morley. LCA’s best chance to tie the game came after ALA fumbled the ball late in the fourth quarter.

ALA’s defense stopped LCA on four straight downs to complete the victory. ALA travels to Grand County for their next contest while LCA hosts Milford.
