Water and mud cover a portion of the road after a water main break between Wasatch Boulevard and I-125 east near I-80 in Millcreek on Friday.
A ramp from northbound I-215 to eastbound I-80 in Parleys Canyon may be closed throughout the weekend after a break spewed high amounts of water onto the freeway, a Utah Department of Transportation official said.
The agency originally estimated the closure, which includes the two right lanes on the freeway, would last about two hours. However, possible erosion underneath the roadway is expected to extend that closure longer, said Tim Beery, UDOT Region 2 communication manager.
“To get that erosion to stop and everything, (the workers) are looking like it’s going to run through the weekend,” he said. However, some of that estimated weekend closure is weather-dependent, Beery said, and there is a possibility the ramp could reopen sooner "if it dries out, and we’re able to get in there and stop the eroding."
