Letter: Inspired to call Utah home

While driving on I-15, I have observed the billboard honoring the life of LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson. My first thought in seeing this tribute to his life was one of awe. I felt genuinely inspired to live in the state of Utah. I grew up on the East Coast, in Westford, Mass., located 35 miles west of Boston. My family moved here in 2001 and made Utah our home.

I'm not a current LDS member myself, however, I am a church member of Holladay United Church of Christ. To witness the acknowledgement of President Monson's life well-served is powerful. As fellow Utahns we all are aware of the polarizing nature of education, environmental issues, health care, politics and religion. Thank you, Utah, for staying true to your character, religious roots and setting an example of service. Our state is far from perfect and has its share of moments of brilliance and struggle. But most days I remain inspired to call Utah my home.
