Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, will not seek another term in office.
Hatch announced Tuesday that he plans to retire from the United States Senate, where he’s served for more than 40 years.
Previous reports have suggested that Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts and U.S. presidential candidate, would run in Hatch’s absence.
Romney himself thanked Hatch on Twitter.

Following Hatch's announcement, Romney's name started trending on Twitter, where social media users began discussing his possible candidacy.
