SALT LAKE CITY — A man wanted for allegedly sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl more than five years ago has been returned to Utah to face charges.

Steven Dale Morrey, 39, of Taylorsville, was charged in 3rd District Court in 2014 with three counts of sodomy on a child, a first-degree felony; and aggravated sex abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

Morrey was recently arrested in San Diego and extradited to the Salt Lake County Jail over the weekend, said Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke.

In 2012, Morrey was a "caretaker" for a 10-year-old girl and would take her to preschool and watch her in his apartment, according to charging documents. It was during this time that the sexual misconduct took place, the charges state.

A $250,000 warrant was issued for Morrey's arrest in 2014. His initial appearance in a Utah courtroom is scheduled for Tuesday.
