SAN ANTONIO — Two Utah youths are among 95 semifinalists for the 2018 Military Child of the Year Award.

The semifinalists are Hanna Bahner, 13, Layton, Air Force; and Jessica Walker, 17, Blanding, National Guard.

The award, presented by Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit serving America’s military families, reflects the positive impact that these young people have made on their military families, their schools and their communities.

Thirty-five finalists will be selected in February by a panel of judges chosen by Operation Homefront’s senior leadership. The seven award recipients representing each branch of the military will travel to Washington to be recognized at an April 19 gala, during which senior leaders will present the awards. They also will each receive $10,000, a laptop computer and other donated gifts.

Last year, Jamal Braxton, a student at Northridge High School in Layton, was named the Air Force Military Child of the Year.
