SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Division of Motor Vehicles is reminding drivers that although safety inspections are no longer required on passenger vehicle registrations in Utah, they are required for vehicles whose registrations expired in 2017.
Legislation discontinuing the safety inspection requirement became effective on Monday but does not change requirements in place prior to that date.
“This means if a passenger vehicle registration expires in 2017 that would have required a safety inspection at that time, the inspection will still be required to register after that date — even in January,” Charlie Roberts, spokesman of the Utah Division of Motor Vehicles, said in a statement.
