FARMINGTON — After shooting Hunter Woodson, Seth Carreras continued firing even after he was down, according to a newly unsealed search warrant affidavit.
"Seth shot him a lot of times," Woodson's girlfriend, who was also in the room, told police, according to the warrant. "(She) said that she saw Hunter fall back, and she said Seth walked over to him and kept shooting."
The disturbing new details into the death of the 19-year-old Sunset man, allegedly over a low-level marijuana deal, were unveiled in the affidavit filed in 2nd District Court.
Seth Carreras, 17, is charged with murder, a first-degree felony.
On Nov. 21, Carreras attempted to buy 1 ½ ounces of marijuana from Woodson at Woodson's home, according to court documents. Woodson didn't have that much, but told Carreras to come over anyway, according to police.
"Hunter got a zip-lock bag and put kitchen spices in it like paprika, salt and pepper, all kitchen spices. Hunter then taped up the pink bag real tight so he would have to struggle with it to get it open," the warrant states.
Carreras arrived about 12:30 p.m. "and Hunter told Seth he was going to smoke a joint with him to see if he liked the weed first."
Carreras agreed to purchase the marijuana but didn't have money on him, according to the affidavit. Police say he went home and later texted Woodson that he only had $121 of the agreed upon $260 price.
When Carreras returned, "Hunter told (his girlfriend) to go out and get the money and he said he would go get the kitchen spices," the warrant states.
But when Carreras received his bag, he began feeling its texture, and then opened it, police say. The girlfriend went back into the house and told Woodson to lock the door because she thought Carreras was figuring out he got spices, according to the affidavit.
As Woodson made his way to the back door, they could hear Carreras already inside the house calling for him, saying Woodson tried to "play me," court documents state. Woodson and his girlfriend ran into his bedroom.
"Hunter told her to stand behind the door because he didn't want her to get hurt. She said she was hiding behind the door … and then Seth came in … and Seth had already pulled out his gun and he was already pointing it at him when he walked into the door," the warrant states.
According to the girlfriend, "Hunter was like, 'What are you going to do about it? Are you going to shoot me?'" and then took a fighting stance, the warrant states.
That's when Carreras allegedly opened fire. Seven shell casings were recovered by police inside Woodson's home. The girlfriend said Carreras then went through Woodson's pockets looking for his money before running out of the house, the warrant states.
Just 22 minutes after 911 was called, Carreras was arrested at his home in Layton.
Carreras was also charged in December with assault by a prisoner, a third-degree felony. While being held at the Farmington Bay Juvenile Detention Center, Carreras "kicked a staff member in the leg. The defendant had to be restrained by multiple staff members until he calmed down," the charges state.
His next court hearings on both charges are scheduled for Friday.
