SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Gary Herbert has declared January as Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, and to celebrate, all 13 resorts in Utah are offering packages tailored for first-time skiers and snowboarders.

Most of the resorts are offering a two-hour lesson, rentals and lift ticket for $49. A complete list of resort deals and discounts can be found at skiutah.com/lssm.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month. During its first year, participating resorts nationwide provided just more 20,000 beginner lessons. Over the past nine years, upward of a million beginner lessons have been given as part of this national initiative.

New this year, first-timers can receive a $50 gift voucher from skis.com or snowboards.com simply by sending in proof of having taken a beginner lesson from a pro. They can also win prizes by posting photos of themselves their first day on the slopes using the hashtag #firstdayfaces. Prizes include $250 gift vouchers from Liftopia.com, GetSkTickets.com, skis.com or snowboards.com. The contest runs through Feb. 23 at the conclusion of the Olympic Winter Games.
