Letter: Disappointed with our senators' priorities

I’m extremely disappointed in the future our Sens. Mike Lee and Orrin Hatch are creating with their legislative priorities. I really cannot understand risking yet another 100 percent preventable recession for the sake of the rich getting richer.

Economists, accountants and countless other credible sources tried to warn them of the tax plan's detrimental effects over time. They can tout tax cuts and child tax credits all they want now, but their plan explicitly cuts these savings for the middle class over time — making their claims very misleading. They ignored math and logic in favor of appeasing their donors, revealing where their true priorities lie.

I never want to hear another word from the GOP claiming to be the party of fiscal responsibility after potentially adding $1.5 trillion to the deficit and cutting social services to give tax cuts to billionaires and corporations. Our income disparity is already tied with that of Russia — this bill ensures we will be worse off than that in no time. My hope for the future diminishes with each passing day as our government devolves into a plutocracy.
