PROVO — Longtime BYU fan Jacob Conover is now a Cougar.
The four-star quarterback prospect signed his letter of intent with BYU on Wednesday, the first day of the December signing period. The school announced his signing at 8:04 a.m.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Conover committed to the Cougars in May and stayed true to that commitment. He finished his high school career at Chandler High in Arizona with 10,098 passing yards and 102 touchdowns to just 16 interceptions in three years as a starter.
Conover is a four-star recruit in the 247Sports composite rankings and No. 104 on ESPN’s list of the top 300 recruits in the 2019 class. He completed 68.2 percent of his passes and had a 137.5 QB rating in high school.
“My dad went to BYU and I’ve been surrounded by that campus my whole life,” Conover told the Deseret News in August. “Coach Kalani (Sitake) is one of the most amazing coaches I have ever met, and the whole atmosphere about it — I love it.”
Conover will graduate early and leave in February to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Paraguay.
He led Chandler to three straight state titles and for two years played alongside BYU freshman wide receiver Gunner Romney.
“He can put the ball on the money,” Romney said of Conover at the start of the year. “I think his mental side of the game is where he’s strongest at.”
