TAYLORSVILLE — Police are looking for a man and woman after a man was found with a gunshot wound to his hand in the parking lot of a Taylorsville hotel.

About 5:25 a.m., police were called by a tenant of the Crossland Economy Suites, 5683 S. Redwood Road, stating she heard a gunshot and someone moaning, said Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke.

When officers arrived, they found blood on the back of one of the buildings and followed a trail of blood to one of the rooms, he said.

Investigators searched the room and found more blood and a gunshot hole in the mattress of the bed, Lohrke said. About the same time, police received a call of a gunshot victim at a nearby gas station. The man had been shot in the hand, Lohrke said.

The man claimed the shooting happened in the hotel parking lot, according to Lohrke, but detectives believe the shooting happened inside the room.

The man was not cooperating with detectives and declined to give them his name, police said.

The man, believed to be about 30 years old, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Detectives are looking for a man and woman who were registered to the room.

Police also served a search warrant on the room and collected undisclosed evidence.
