Dixie State senior guard Brandon Simister was named to the 2017-18 Academic All-District 8 Men’s Basketball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Simister, who is now a three-time CoSIDA all-district honoree, will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team Ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in the coming weeks.

Simister (St. George, Utah/Desert Hills HS), who carries a 3.91 GPA in biology, has started all 23 games he has played in this season and is currently DSU’s leading scorer at 15.3 ppg, having scored in double figures in 20 of his 23 starts. He leads the team with five 20-plus point outings and has paced the team in scoring 10 times overall, including a career-high 25 points with a DSU single-game record-tying six 3-pointers in a win over Holy Names on Senior Night this past Monday.

Simister enters the final weekend of the 2017-18 regular season as DSU’s career leader in 3-pointers made (155) and free throw percentage (.868), which includes a program record .896 percentage this season (No. 18 in NCAA DII). The senior also broke DSU and Pacific West Conference single-game records with 18-straight free throws made in a win at Concordia-Irvine, going 18-for-18 overall.

He also became the seventh player in DSU’s NCAA era to reach the 1,000 career point plateau and is currently ranked fourth in career scoring with 1,073 points. Overall, Simister is ranked in the top 10 all-time in 13 DSU career statistical categories, including second all-time in free throws made (322), third in assists (290) and fourth in career 3-point field goal percentage (.427).

The CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's Basketball Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada, with District 8 including the Pacific West, California Collegiate and Great Northwest Athletic conferences.
