Social media user Shon Mogharabi shared a video that left New York City residents stunned.
The video, which has amassed almost 50,000 retweets and 146,000 likes on Twitter, shows a man on the tracks under the B train in New York’s subway tunnels.
The video was also posted to Instagram, where it received more than 100,000 views.
“Been living in NYC way too long. Saw a guy on the tracks this AM, with the B train speeding ahead,” Mogharabi wrote. “I tried to pull him out and he ducked under the tracks just before it hit him. He’s all good though, he just enjoyed a morning cig under the train after.”
A woman flagged down the train so that it would slow down, according to the New York Post. Moments later, the man appeared fine smoking a cigarette under the platform and next to the train.
Authorities came and rescued the man, who was not injured. Authorities later identified the man as Rafael Gonzalez, 52. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital.
Gonzalez has a record of his own, including 19 arrests on multiple accounts of assault and public alcohol consumption. He wasn’t arrested during Monday’s incident.
“I can’t believe he didn’t get hit, and I can’t believe that I was the only one who tried to grab him,” Mogharabi told the New York Post. “He looked like he knew what he was doing, like he does this all the time.”
