If marking the cost of the death penalty was the purpose of the penalty, it would be administered by the accounting department ("Death penalty is an undue burden on Utahns," Feb. 22). We have a Justice Department for that purpose, to mete out justice. The state of Utah could have saved the cost of the commission's working group on which Mr. Dellapiana served by just looking at the name of the responsible department. Justice. The purpose of the law is not to scare people away from committing a horrible crime. It is to bring justice to those who deserve it. Several families who have lived through these awful crimes have testified before the Legislature. Listen to them. They deserve it, and we as a society deserve it, and it is right that we demand justice.
