STANSBURY PARK, Tooele County — One person was in critical condition and two others were seriously injured in a five-car collision on state Route 36 shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday that closed the northbound lanes for nearly two hours.

The accident, near Canyon Road, occurred when a southbound driver crossed into northbound traffic and struck first one car and then another that was pushed into a fourth vehicle that impacted a fifth, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The driver of the southbound vehicle was was transported by a medical helicopter from the scene, and the drivers of the second and third vehicles were transported by ambulance in poor condition, the UHP said.
