SALT LAKE CITY — A tiny rupture in a gas line near the Grand America Hotel shut down nearby streets for several hours Thursday as crews investigated and made repairs.
Evacuations of the hotel's first two floors were ordered and almost immediately called off, said Audra Sorensen, spokeswoman for the Salt Lake City Fire Department.
No one reported being sickened by the leak, which was contained to the ground on the south side of the hotel and was "perhaps smaller than a paper-hole punch," according to a statement from Salt Lake City fire.
Sorensen said it wasn't immediately clear what caused the apparent break in the line. Teams closed Main Street between 500 and 700 South and paused TRAX service in the area from about 9 a.m. Monday until noon.
