MAGNA — Two people were being questioned in connection with a shooting Friday that police are struggling to find a motive for.

The incident happened just after 2 p.m. near 2800 South and 9150 West, not far from Cyprus High School. Two men fired their guns for an unknown reason at another man on a go-kart, said Unified Police Sgt. Levi Hughes. The shots missed that man, but hit a vehicle behind him that was stationary, he said. No one in the car was injured.

The two men took off, but witnesses saw them go into a nearby house and directed police to their location, Hughes said.

As of Friday evening, two men, ages 18 and 22, were being questioned and a search warrant was being served on the house, he said. Investigators were still trying to figure out if there was any connection between the alleged gunmen and the man on the go-kart.

The shooting prompted Cyprus High to shelter its students and employees in place.
