SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah football team will be well-represented at the Senior Bowl in January.

The two Ute standouts Francis Bernard and Julian Blackmon, who’ve played key roles in the team’s suffocating defense, were the first players to commit to the annual showcase and scouting spectacle for outgoing student-athletes. The game will be played on Jan. 25, 2020, in Mobile, Alabama.

“No school had more first wave @seniorbowl invites than @Utah_Football,” wrote Jim Nagy, the executive director of the Senior Bowl. “Excited that Francis and Julian are the first commits to Mobile. Both guys are playmakers for the top-10 Utes. Good luck the rest of the season, @Francis57045035 and @JulianBlackmon!”

Blackmon retweeted the announcement, and Bernard offered his gratitude with a tweet.

“Want to thank @JimNagy_SB and the @seniorbowl staff fro inviting me to the Senior bowl,” the linebacker wrote. “I am truly blessed and am excited to be down there in mobile on the 25th of January. Special thank you to my family and @Utah_Football for believing! #Kongo #goutes

Don’t be surprised if more Utes join Bernard and Blackmon.

One Utah fan tweeted at Nagy that he’d forgotten quarterback Tyler Huntley and running back Zack Moss. Nagy simply responded, “Not forgetting anyone.”

Former Utes Marquise Blair, Chase Hansen, Mitch Wishnowsky, Matt Gay, Jackson Barton and Cody Barton were invited to participate in postseason senior bowls last season, including the Reese’s Senior Bowl and the East-West Shrine Game.
