Topeka, Kansas, may not be the most popular city in the country. But that could change now that it’s offering $15,000 for people to move there.
What’s going on: Topeka, Kansas, is offering new residents $15,000 to move there. It’s a part of a program called “Choose Topeka,” which offers the money to people who move there to live and work for at least a year, according to CNN.
- People will receive $10,000 if they rent or $15,000 to those who buy or fix up a home.
- 40 to 60 residents will receive benefits from the program.
- The cash only comes after the employee has moved to Topeka for a year.
- The money can be used for all moving expenses.
What they’re saying: Barbara Stapleton, vice president of business retention and talent initiatives for GO Topeka, an organization of the Greater Topeka Partnership, said the move was made to build community, per Time magazine.
- Stapleton: “Choose Topeka was created with the intention of investing in employees to live and work in Topeka & Shawnee County, so that we may foster an ‘intentional community,’ one of community support builders.”
