Twice a year, fans from all over Utah get to experience a multi-genre pop culture expo featuring top fandoms, creative cosplay, and notorious celebrities. The best part of FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention is that whether you’re an anime nerd or a pop culture sweetheart, there’s something for everyone. Each person has something they’re passionate about, and FanX is certainly here to deliver to Utah’s passionate fans.
Held April 19-20 at the Salt Palace Convention Center, FanX offers a place to let your hair down and your fandom flag fly while being surrounded by other enthusiasts.
Here are this spring’s celebrity guests and what else you can expect from the convention this month.
Meet favorite celebrities
Zachary Levi will be present on Saturday during the convention, still riding on the success of his most recent film, “Shazam!” in which he stars with Asher Angel, who will also be attending the convention.
“Chuck”, “Tangled” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” are just a few of the projects Levi is known for in his seasoned acting career. Levi may look the part of handsome hero, but he has plenty of passion and nerdiness to spare having created Nerd HQ (formerly Nerd Machine), a hub for all things nerd. An avid gamer with an impressive acting resume and friendliness to boot, fans will love meeting Levi in real life. Find out more about Zach’s FanX schedule here.
“The Office: U.S.” is one of the greatest TV sitcoms of all time, even if most young viewers were toddlers when it first aired. Old and young fans can rejoice about the attendance of the entire Dunder Mifflin Scranton accounting department: Angela Kinsey, Brian Baumgartner, and Oscar Núñez. Make sure you attend their panel April 19 from 2-3 p.m.
Potterheads have plenty to please them at this year’s FanX with appearances from Tom Felton and Warwick Davis. Felton played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, as well as another great villain in “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.”
Unbeknownst to many, Warwick Davis has played roles in a great many franchises including Narnia, Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Doctor Who. Davis also played the title character in “Willow” alongside Val Kilmer, who is also attending the convention. Potterheads should stop by the Harry Potter Wheel of Fortune: FanX Edition game for a chance to win prizes and glory.
Monty Python’s John Cleese will be attending, along with big names such as Alice Cooper, Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman), Billie Piper (Doctor Who), Tye Sheridan (Ready Player One), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Tom Ellis (Lucifer), Tony Todd (The Flash), Samantha Smith (Supernatural) and many more. See the full guest list here.
Events and extras
FanX isn’t just about the celebrities. In fact, it’s more about the fans! What’s more fun than getting to celebrate your favorite stories and passions with your friends? Here are some other events and extras you might enjoy at FanX:
In addition to seeing celebrity stars, you can enjoy getting photo-ops and autographs. After you’ve gotten star-struck, take a look at the local amateur and professional cosplayers at the convention. The Vendor Floor has plenty of things to see and buy, and don’t forget to stop by Artist Alley, where world-class artists, illustrators and animators are displaying and selling their creations. You can even commission a custom piece in whatever style you want to commemorate your attendance at FanX.
KidCon is also a great family-friendly way to let young children get in on the FanX experience. At the end of the day, stop by the Gaming Lounge to blow off some steam with Dungeons and Dragons sessions.
Each year, guest panelists and fandom spotlight panels are carefully selected and put together for convention attendees’ enjoyment. Game designing, novel writing, actor spotlights, fantasy-themed panels and more are all being held throughout the convention, so make sure you don’t miss your favorites! View panel programming and more on the FanX Convention schedule page.
Some of this year’s fantastic extras include life-size statues of Deadpool, Gandalf the Grey, Batman, Gollum, Harley-Quinn and Han Solo in Carbonite.
