Body of West Valley man found in road, police looking for clues

Todd Curtis

WEST VALLEY CITY — West Valley police are looking for anyone who might know what happened to a man found dead on a residential street.

About 9 p.m., the body of Hairon Freyre-Portuondo, 20, was found in the road near 1855 W. 3188 South. Freyre-Portuondo had traumatic injuries that were consistent with being hit by a car, said West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku. But the injuries were only to the upper portion of his body, she said.

Freyre-Portuondo has no known ties to the area where he was found, Vainuku said. He was last seen by his family at his home about 3 p.m. Tuesday, she said. Freyre-Portuondo lived in West Valley but on the opposite side of the city from where his body was found. He was last seen with friends, Vainuku said.

Because the road where Freyre-Portuondo's body was found is so short, police say it's not likely he was hit by a vehicle that was traveling at an excessive rate of speed.

Anyone who may have seen or heard something can call police at 801-840-4000.
