LOGAN —Utah State men's tennis (17-8, 5-1 MW) will take on Boise State (11-8, 1-5 MW) on Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m., at the Appleton Tennis Center. Regardless of the outcome, the Aggies have clinched the No. 2 spot in next week's Mountain West Championships in Fresno, California.
Utah State is coming off of two road wins at Fresno State, 4-1, and at Nevada, 4-0.
The Aggies are led by sophomore Felipe Acosta, who is 18-3 and leads the team with six match-clinching victories this season. Overall, Acosta has clinched the match for the Aggies seven times over the course of his career. Additionally, Acosta is one win away from breaking the all-time single-season dual match singles record as he's currently tied with teammate Sergiu Bucur, who recorded 18 dual match singles wins in 2017.
Junior Duro Opacic has 15 wins on the dual match season and is one win away from breaking the single-season total singles wins mark as he's tied with Jack Swindells and Kai Wehnelt with 26 overall wins.
Boise State leads Utah State, 35-7, in program history, however, the Aggies have won five-straight matches, including a 4-2 win in last season's quarterfinals of the Mountain West Championships. In singles for the Broncos, Wyatt DeMulling leads with a 13-3 record, including 6-1 at the No. 5 spot. In doubles, Luka Soskic and Simon Stenlund are 4-4-3 at the No. 3 spot.
