WEST VALLEY CITY — An infant critically injured in a suspected case of child abuse by the girl's teen babysitter has died, West Valley police confirmed Friday.

Adalyn Monson, 4-months-old, passed away Friday morning.

"Our detectives will be meeting with the DA's office on Wednesday to determine what charges will be filed. The suspected juvenile remains in detention," police stated in a tweet

On Tuesday, police were called to the Shadowbrook Apartments, 3852 S. 1845 West, on the report of an unresponsive baby, said West Valley Police Lt. Kent Stokes. The infant was taken to Primary Children's Hospital in critical condition. Doctors noticed signs of shaken baby syndrome, said Stokes.

Adalyn was being watched by a 16-year-old boy at the time, according to police. After police interviewed the teen, he was arrested for investigation of child abuse and booked into juvenile detention.

In an earlier email to the Deseret News, family members stated that Adalyn's parents were picking her up from the baby sitter's house when they noticed she wasn't breathing. They said at the time that if Adalyn didn't survive, her organs would be donated.

A GoFundMe memorial account was established to help the family pay for medical and funeral expenses.
