WEST VALLEY CITY — A man died and two other people were injured after a shooting at a West Valley City home early Sunday morning, police said.
Just after midnight, officers were called to the home at 5625 W. 4360 South, West Valley Police Lt. Shane Matheson said. When they arrived, they found shell casings and blood outside the house, Matheson said.
"The three victims were all at that residence just enjoying their evening when two suspect vehicles showed up at the house and started a confrontation where everybody ended up outside in the roadway where the shots were fired," the lieutenant said.
Police estimated that between 10 and 12 shots were fired.
Neko Jardine, 19, showed up at a hospital while police were responding to the scene. He underwent surgery and died Sunday evening, according to West Valley police.
Two juveniles were inside the home when police arrived, Matheson said. One had a wound on his wrist and the other had gunshot wounds on his legs.
Police were looking for two vehicles that drove away after the shooting — a white Mustang and red Nissan Altima — and were investigating whether the shooting was related to drugs.
"The indicators of it being gang affiliated or even drug affiliated, they're not overwhelming like we would see in some other types of these instances," Matheson said.
No one else was injured but there was some property damage from bullets in the area.
