ALPINE — Police in northern Utah were surprised to learn the suspect in a reported burglary was a wild turkey.

Dave Ventrano with Lone Peak police says they received a call on July 20 from a resident in Alpine who heard a window break in the house next door. The family that lives there was out of town.

Officers searched the house and found a dead turkey lying in a pile of broken glass underneath a window on the first floor of the home.

Ventrano said the turkey died after flying through the window.

He said there are a lot of wild turkeys in Alpine.
