I hope I can get an opportunity just because I want to be out there playing. I just want to help the team as best as I can. But we’ll see what happens. – Jimmer Fredette
SALT LAKE CITY — This time there wasn't a group of blue-shirted fans in the upper deck cheering for him.
Still, former BYU star Jimmer Fredette elicits a loud response from fans at the EnergySolutions Arena, a mix of cheers and boos, when he gets on the floor.
In New Orleans' 106-94 victory Saturday night, Fredette played for a little over eight minutes, during which time he missed both of his shots and otherwise had all zeroes on his stat line except for an assist, a rebound and a steal.

After playing three seasons in Sacramento and a few games in Chicago at the end of last season, Fredette is seeing less time than ever this year, averaging a career-low 2.8 points in six games this year. After missing both his shots Saturday, he fell to 30.4 percent on the season with just 1-of-8 from 3-point range.
Fredette hoped to see more time in New Orleans this year but acknowledged before the game that it’s “definitely tough’’ not seeing more minutes.
“As a competitor, you want to be out there on the floor,’’ Fredette said. “But ultimately it’s the coach’s decision. I hope I can get an opportunity just because I want to be out there playing. I just want to help the team as best as I can. But we’ll see what happens.''
New Orleans coach Monty Williams said defensive matchups have been a reason Fredette hasn’t played more.
“A lot of times, it’s just matchups,’’ Williams said. “It has nothing to do with Jimmer. He’s put his work in and he was involved in a couple of our wins. He hasn’t shot as well as we would like him to. But he’s due.’’
This will be the Pelicans' and Fredette's only appearance in Salt Lake this season. The Jazz play in New Orleans on Dec. 16 and Feb. 9.
