Family motivates Provo's Maka Unufe to USA Rugby captaincy, breakout sevens season

One-time Provo High dropout and former football star Maka Unufe seems to have found his sport — and his motivation.

Unufe, who was profiled this week on, said his family has been the main driving force for him as captain of the USA Rugby sevens national team.

"The reason I want to keep pushing when I'm tired ... I always think of my wife — she's done a lot for me — and especially my kids," Unufe said in a USA Rugby video. "They're the reason I push when I feel like I want to give up."

The former United Rugby Club and Utah Warriors player is having a breakout year on the international rugby sevens tour. Last year he was named captain of the squad, and he was recently named to the Dubai Rugby Sevens' Dream Team.

The 23-year-old is one of USA Rugby's rising stars, and it's coming at a perfect time because rugby sevens will be a medal event at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next summer.
