SALT LAKE CITY — Nike has a new idea: Netflix, but for kids shoes.
Nike announced on Monday a new subscription service for kids sneakers called Nike Adventure Club where parents can order for their children on a monthly, bimonthly or quarterly basis.
“In providing footwear, we’re always trying to answer, ‘What do kids want?’” Dominique Shortell, director of product experience and retention for Nike Adventure Club, said in a released statement. “But an equally important question is, ‘What kind of experience are we providing for their parents?’ We want to make shopping for footwear as convenient as possible for them.”
Here’s a breakdown of the plans:
- The new plan will allow parents to order shoes from sizes 4C to 7Y on a monthly, bimonthly or quarterly basis. Each of those plans will cost $50, $30 and $20 per month, respectively.
- Parents can change their chosen plans at any time and cancel as they want to.
- Parents can choose from 100 sneaker styles, which include sportswear or causal wear sneakers.
- If you like the shoe, you’re cool to keep it. if not, you can send it back and Nike will send you another pair. Nike said in a statement it will recycle and donate those that are returned.
- Parents and children will receive adventure guides for outdoor activities as well.
So is this something for you to try? Well, it might be a smart buy for two reasons. One, most children’s shoes can cost around $60, so you might save money. Plus, children’s feet tend to grow rather quickly, according to Engadget.
“Focusing on children for this plan is a smart idea. Kids can outgrow (or ruin) shoes quickly, so having a pair drop into one’s mailbox every so often could help parents save time and money, if they opt for the monthly option in particular,” according to Engadget.
The new plan rolled out on Aug. 12.
