SALT LAKE CITY — “Star Wars” dropped a new poster for its upcoming film, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” at the D23 Expo, Disney’s annual convention of news and announcements.

The poster, which you can see below, shows Rey and Kylo Ren in the middle of a lightsaber battle as Emperor Palpatine watches from the stars.

The film drops on Dec. 20.

The new poster confirms that Palpatine will return to the franchise. After all, Emperor Palpatine’s laugh appeared at the end of the teaser trailer, which dropped earlier this year. There’s been some rumors and speculation about how Palpatine will factor into the new film (from a proxy character to his own Sith Troopers), but nothing has been confirmed, other than that he will factor into the storyline.

The new poster also confirms that Rey and Kylo Ren will be butting heads again. And, as other pieces of “Rise of Skywalker” art have done, the poster points to this ongoing battle between the blue and red lightsabers — the light and dark side of the Force.
