Utah State football schedule — a closer look at the Aggies’ 2019 season

The Aggies will have their hands full with a difficult schedule this year.

Aug. 30 at Wake Forest, 6 p.m. (MT), ACC Network

One of only two Power Five opponents on the Aggies’ schedule, the Demon Deacons are coming off a 7-6 season and back-to-back-to-back winning campaigns, only the second time Wake Forest has done that since 1950-52.

  • Predicted score: Aggies 35, Demon Deacons 32

Sept. 7 vs. Stony Brook, 5:30 p.m. (MT), FACEBOOK

The Aggies and Seawolves have never met. Stony Brook finished 7-5 last season, a campaign that ended with a loss to Southeast Missouri in the first round of the FCS playoffs.

  • Predicted score: Aggies 48, Seawolves 14

Sept. 21 at San Diego State, 8:15 p.m. (MT), CBS Sports Network (CBSSN)

The Aggies are 1-12 all time against the Aztecs, having most recently lost 40-13 in 2016. Utah State’s only win in the series came on the road, in 1967.

  • Predicted score: Aggies 21, Aztecs 17

Sept. 28 vs. Colorado State, 5:30 p.m. (MT), CBSSN

Utah State is 4-6 in its last 10 contests against the Rams, going back to 1995. Since joining the Mountain West, the teams are an even 3-3 against one another.

  • Predicted score: Aggies 27, Rams 24

Oct. 5 at No. 6 LSU, TBD

The sixth-ranked Tigers and the Aggies have met only twice, first in 1993 and again in 2001. LSU handily defeated Utah State both times, 38-17 and 31-14.

Oct. 19 vs. Nevada, TBD, ESPN NETWORKS

The Wolf Pack have controlled the series, going back to its inception in 1904. The conference foes haven’t met since 2016, when Nevada defeated Utah State 38-37 in Maverik Stadium.

  • Predicted score: Aggies 31, Wolf Pack 21

Oct. 26 at Air Force, TBD, ESPN NETWORKS

Utah State and Air Force met only one time before becoming conference opponents. The Falcons lead the all-time series 4-3.

Utah State is looking for its third consecutive victory over BYU, which would be the longest winning streak for the Aggies in the series since 1971-74.

Nov. 9 at Fresno State, 5 p.m. (MT), CBSSN

While the Aggies have won their past two matchups with the Bulldogs, in 2015 and 2016, respectively, they have yet to face Fresno State under head coach Jeff Tedford. The defending Mountain West Conference champions won 12 games last year, a program record.

Nov. 16 vs. Wyoming, TBD, ESPN NETWORKS

Utah State has traditionally had success against Wyoming, is 4-2 against the Cowboys since joining the Mountain West and left Laramie with a 24-16 victory a season ago.

  • Predicted score: Aggies 24, Cowboys 14

Nov. 23 vs. Boise State, 8:30 p.m. (MT), CBSSN

Outside of their runaway 52-26 victory over the Broncos in 2015, the Aggies have had little success against Boise. The Broncos are 18-5 all time against Utah State, and have lost just once in the last 16 contests played between the teams.

Nov. 30 at New Mexico, 2 p.m. (MT), FACEBOOK

The Aggies crushed the Lobos in 2018 by a score of 61-19, the largest margin of victory by other team in what has been a very competitive series over the years. Utah State is 4-2 against New Mexico since joining the Mountain West.
