SALT LAKE CITY — A poorly kept secret is finally official.

For a number of months, there have been strong rumblings that the Utah Jazz will occasionally wear a throwback purple “mountain” jersey and play on a corresponding throwback court during the 2019-2020 season, and on Wednesday morning, the team formally unveiled both on social media.

In addition to images, the Jazz produced videos to announce the unveil featuring former and current players and broadcasters.

Specific dates weren’t given for when the team will wear the jerseys and play on the court, but the team said it will occur 11 times during the 2019-2020 campaign. On Oct. 19, the team will hold an event at Vivint Arena where tickets to these games can be purchased.

Jerseys are available for preorder on the team store website.

The jersey, which the Jazz began wearing in the 1996-1997 season as it made its first of two straight trips to the NBA Finals, marked a big move away from the “note” logo and jersey, which Utah had been wearing throughout its existence to that point.

The mountain jersey was retired in 2004.

It is also expected that at least Donovan Mitchell will wear a special colorway of his custom shoe when the Jazz wear the throwback jerseys.
