SALT LAKE CITY — A new poll from UtahPolicy.com and Y2 Analytics seeks to solve a much-debated question in the state of Utah: Which is the more popular college football team — BYU or Utah?

The survey found that the University of Utah is the most popular college football team in the Beehive State, with 42% of respondents who said they both followed college football and had a favorite team singling out the Utes as their team of choice. Not far behind was BYU, who commanded 31% of the survey results. Following BYU was Utah State, as 8% of respondents said the Aggies were their favorite team to cheer for. The other 19% of survey-takers said another college team was their favorite team.

As for the NFL, the Denver Broncos — the only NFL team that has its games broadcast every week on Utah’s CBS channel — were the favorite team of survey-takers that both followed the NFL and had a favorite team, commanding 15% of the vote. Following behind Denver were the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers, both with 9% of the vote. Finally, the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks rounded out Utah’s top six most-followed NFL franchises with 7%.
