Andrew Yang did something over the weekend that few presidential candidates have ever done.

Yang tweeted a video of himself Sunday that showed him crowd surfing while speaking at the AAPI Democratic Presidential Forum in Costa Mesa, California, according to CNN.

The event centered around Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Yang was one 2020 candidate included at the event. Tom Steyer and Tulsi Gabbard, who are also running for president, appeared at the event, too.

“Haven’t crowdsurfed in awhile,” Yang tweeted.

Yang is currently polling at about 3%, according to polling averages from Real Clear Politics. He will be included in the next round of Democratic debates in Houston this week.

Yang has gained a passionate following as he’s gained more media spotlight, according to The New York Times. Yang’s biggest claim to fame has been his “Freedom Dividend” plan, which would deliver $1,000 of basic income to Americans every month.

Fans once perceived him as an online meme and not as a serious candidate to battle President Donald Trump.

But now, things have changed.

“He was a meme — his campaign was a joke,” Ben Longchamp, a college student from Atkinson, N.H., told The New York Times. “I’ve seen 14 candidates at this point, and what I like about him is he has this one policy proposal and he has the data to back it up.”

Yang said there’s been a rise in interest, too.

“I’ve been coming to New Hampshire every month for the last year-plus,” Yang said, according to The New York Times. “When I first showed up, honestly no one knew who I was. The growth from then to now — it’s staggering.”
