Lori Loughlin learned her official trial date in the college admissions scandal on Thursday, and the announcement might mean something for how strong the case is against her.

What’s going on?

  • Brand and reputation management expert Eric Schiffer said this means the federal prosecutors believe they have a strong case.
  • “They have a strong case especially if they can enter into evidence the pattern of parents that have been charged and convicted.”
  • Schiffer said the pattern is clear. The parents donated money to the University of Southern California through the trial’s mastermind, William “Rick” Singer. They would not need to do that if they just wanted to donate money.
  • Schiffer also pointed to the fake resume of Olivia Jade, the daughter of Loughlin, that was released earlier in February as another piece of evidence that could hurt Loughlin.
  • “Lori Loughlin faces a catastrophic set of obstacles,” he said.

What’s next?

  • Loughlin’s team will have another status conference before a judge on July 28 in the Boston federal courthouse.
