High school girls soccer: 5A/6A state tournament roundup from Thursday’s first round

6A playoffs

Farmington 6, Taylorsville 0

Sammy Kearns scored a pair of goals while Brooke Taylor and Anndi Wright each added a pair of assists as Farmington rolled past Taylorsville in the 6A first round game that featured a two-hour lightning delay.

American Fork 2, Weber 0

Lucy Kessler and Abby Larson both found the back of the net in the second half as No. 17 seed American Fork edged No. 16 seed Weber for the 6A first round win.

Roy 5, Granger 0

Macy Reed scored two first-half goals and Kasia Greely had two second-half goals as Granger picked up the shutout victory over Roy. Essence Burrus added another goal and Lylian Rosenberg recorded the clean sheet in the playoff victory.

Fremont 7, West 0

Brooklyn Robinson led the way for the Silverwolves with a hat trick to help lift Fremont to the easy 6A first round win over West.

Corner Canyon 1, Clearfield 0

Hannah Larsen scored the lone goal for Corner Canyon, assisted by Tess Werts, as the Chargers picked up the win over Clearfield in the first round the of the 6A playoffs. Meg Covey and Brighton Jakeman split the shutout in goal for the Chargers.

Westlake 1, Herriman 0

Kyla Jennings netted the only goal for Westlake in the shutout victory over Herriman in the 6A first round. Emmy Finlinson recorded the clean sheet in goal.

Mountain Ridge 6, Hunter 0

Saige Stewart and Cortnee Johnson each had a goal and an assist to lead Mountain Ridge as it rolled past Hunter for the 6A first round win.

Kearns 2, Copper Hills 1

The 12th-seed Cougars picked up the narrow win over Copper Hills in the first round of the 6A state tournament.


5A playoffs

Murray 6, Springville 0

The Spartans scored six goals in the first half as they cruised to the playoff victory over Springville. Sammie Sofonia and Brooklyn Smith had two goals each in the win, and keepers Abby Barlocker and Autumn Mead each contributed to the clean sheet.

Salem Hills 3, Timpview 1

Kylee Carrick netted the hat trick as Salem Hills went on the road to beat Timpview in the first round of the 5A playoffs. Bryanna Hofheins played solid in goal for the SkyHawks.

Northridge 4, Provo 0

Abby Olsen, Sophie Sivulich, Ava Sanchez and Evee Augustine all found the back of the net as Northridge blanked Provo for the 6A first round victory.

Maple Mountain 2, Mountain View 1

Cesia Swain assisted Sheridan Liggett in the first minute of the game to give Maple Mountain an early lead, and Allie Fryer added a second-half goal to help lift the Golden Eagles to victory in the first round of the 5A playoffs.

Woods Cross 1, Box Elder 0

After a scoreless first half, Oakley Anderson scored the lone goal for Woods Cross, assisted by Kate Howes, as the Wildcats picked up the narrow 5A playoff win. Alisi Tauataina recorded the clean sheet in the victory.

Viewmont 2, Hillcrest 0

Viewmont picked up the road 5A playoff win over Hillcrest behind a second half brace from Mati Ball. Addi Welsch recorded the shutout in goal for the Vikings.

Olympus 3, Brighton 1

Kelly Bullock scored a pair of goals and Abigail Carter added a third as visiting Olympus knocked off Brighton for the 5A first round win. Callie Droitsch, Hope Munson and Emma Neff both recorded assists as the Titans look to defend their state title.

East 3, Park City 0

East scored a goal in the first half and two more in the second half as the Leoopards blanked region foe Park City for the 5A first round win.
