Utah is known for a lot of great things. The mountains, skiing, the economy, red rock landscapes, pioneers, and of course, green Jell-O and funeral potatoes. 

One secret many Utahns may be unaware of is the impressive car scene, hidden just beyond view in garages across the Wasatch front. For years, many wonderful cars have been stowed away, only to be viewed in the well-lit security of homes and storage facilities. 

This culture is starting to change, and thanks to the efforts of the local car community and several enthusiast based organizations, there have been more cars on the road and in shows the last few years than ever before—revealing one of the most robust car communities and collections in the United States. 

Classic Car Auction Group, a nationwide live-auction organization, will return to Utah on May 1 at Thanksgiving Point to showcase several local vehicles available for bidding and admiring. 

This 6th Annual Salt Lake City Car Auction should be a fun and exciting event. Set against the beautiful landscape of the Electric Park at Thanksgiving Point, there will be 150 of Utah’s finest classic and collector vehicles crossing the auction block. 

This professional auction attracts buyers from around the world and will be an event you won’t want to miss, even if you’re just watching.

To whet your appetite, here is just a sampling of the incredible cars that will be auctioned off May 1 at Thanksgiving Point. 

1970 Dodge Charger R/T

One of the all-time great muscle cars, the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, is timeless in its appeal and styling. If you’ve seen the “Fast and Furious” movies, it’s no surprise that this model makes frequent appearances. Big, powerful, loud, and brash, these Chargers are about as cool as they come. 

1968 Chevrolet Camaro RestoMod

Another icon from the 1960s and 1970s muscle car era, the Chevrolet Camaro did so much right for its time. Available with an array of excellent V8 motors, clean styling, and just-right proportions, the appeal of a late 19‘60s Camaro is still strong. 

It’s no secret that modern Camaros are styled in homage to this era, and for good reason—they look and sound great! 

This RestoMod Camaro looks particularly nice, given all the modern updates the owner has done to an otherwise 53-year-old core. 

1939 Chevrolet JC Pickup Truck

As capable as new trucks are, these old JC pickups are something special. Beautifully styled, this 1939 Chevrolet looks like a time capsule, complete with white-walled tires and a red pinstripe. 

1941 Ford Deluxe Convertible Street Rod

One of the most classically 1940s cars on the road, this Ford Deluxe convertible street rod looks great and has been lovingly restored over the years. Complete with a beautiful purple and red paint job, if this Deluxe sounds half as good as it looks, there is no doubt the new owner is going to be thrilled. 

1973 Plymouth Barracuda 

A slightly smaller stepbrother to the Challenger, the Plymouth Barracuda is a fairly rare find in the muscle car world. This example is particularly nice. New green paint, wheels, and a thorough mechanical restoration makes this Barracuda a compelling choice for those wanting something a little more unique than the standard Challengers, Chargers, Camaros, and Mustangs of the era. 

1982 Triumph Motorcycle with only 7 actual miles

Cars aren’t the only things being auctioned off on May 1st, some motorcycles are welcome, too. This 1982 Triumph has only seven actual miles on the odometer. Seven! This ultra-low mileage bike is sure to attract plenty of attention when it makes its way to the auction block. 

2018 Chevrolet Corvette with only 3,000 actual miles

While the new mid-engine C8 Corvettes are incredible, many Corvette enthusiasts are in mourning. Gone are the days of front-mounted V8s, long hoods, and manual transmissions—which makes the C7 models all the more interesting to those wanting the last of an era. 

This 2018 Corvette has only 3,000 miles and looks and drives brand new. If you’ve been wanting to pick up one of the best Corvettes of the last 68 years, this C7 could be your last chance at getting one that is essentially new. 

1955 Chevrolet BelAir

Goodness gracious, great balls of fire! The 1955 BelAir is one of the most classically American vehicles of all-time, and this beauty will be up for bidding on May 1. Chevy nailed it with the styling on these, and it’s no surprise that their appeal endures. Be sure to check this one out, you won’t be disappointed.

May 1 classic car auction and show details

May 1 at Thanksgiving Point is going to be a great time for bidders, sellers, and gawkers alike. 

If you’re interested in attending, here are some dates and times to be aware of:

• Friday, April 30 is the vehicle preview and bidder registration event from 4-7 p.m.
• Saturday, May 1 gates open at 8 am.. for vehicle viewing and bidder registration.
• Road art/memorabilia auction begins at 9:30 a.m.
• Classic and Collector Car Auction begins at 10 a.m.
