DMX — who was one of the most popular rappers of the 1990s, died Friday at age 50.
- DMX was well known for his song “Party Up,” which has the lyrics “Y’all gon’ make me lose my mind, up in here, up in here.”
Rumors of DMX’s death began Thursday night. No credible source reported his death at the time, though. It wasn’t until Friday morning that his death was officially announced by his family.
Per The Washington Post, DMX — real name Earl Simmons — died from a “catastrophic cardiac arrest” at a hospital in White Plains, New York. According to ABC New York station WABC, DMX was hospitalized in “grave condition.” He died at the hospital.
- “Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end,” the family said in a statement, according to ABC News. “He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time.”
