Will Daisy Ridley return as Rey Skywalker in the “Star Wars” franchise? Multiple rumors suggest she might be heading back to a galaxy far, far away.
Websites Giant Freakin Robot and WDWNT suggested Ridley is in talks to return as Rey Skywalker in an upcoming “Star Wars” project. It’s unclear whether or not the return would be in a feature film or a Disney+ “Star Wars” series.
- “Just how sizable would her return be? That is another thing we could not parse from the information we were given, but it is undeniable that Daisy Ridley is in the midst of talking to Disney,” according to Giant Freakin Robot.
Are the Rey rumors true?
Now, these rumors are simply that — rumors. There has been no comment from Disney+, Lucasfilm or any other official entity about the rumors. However, we know some industry sources will leak information about rumors to test fan interest.
- “There’s no doubt that that’s possible,” Kendall Phillips, a pop culture professor at Syracuse University, told me back in July. “There is no doubt that — not all the time but at least sometimes — that is a studio saying, ‘Is it worth trying to get, you know, Hugh Jackman to play this role? We’ll see what the fan reaction is.’”
Could Rey return?
Ridley has commented on whether or not she would return to “Star Wars” back in 2020. She told IGN that she doesn’t see a direct path to returning because “The Rise of Skywalker” ended her character’s arc.
“I think for me the beauty of ‘Episode IX’ is it ends with such hope and such potential. I just feel like that was Rey’s perfect ending. The big battle was in Episodes VII, VIII and IX,” Ridley said. “I think really she’s probably running around the forest somewhere having a great time (following the events of ‘The Rise of Skywalker’).”
“I feel totally, totally satisfied with how that story finished. I just don’t know what else she could do that I didn’t have to do. Also, there are so many amazing characters in ‘Star Wars,’ that it’s sort of an amazing thing. I was watching the new episode of ‘Mandalorian,’ and it’s just like the places it can go beyond even where it is now is so exciting.”
