United Airlines has decided to encourage passengers to get the COVID-19 vaccine by offering ... the potential for free flights.

  • “Thanks to the vaccine, more and more destinations are opening up for travel — and we know our customers are eager to fly,” United CEO Scott Kirby said. “We’re excited to give people one more reason to get vaccinated so they can reunite with friends and family or take that long-awaited vacation which all could be just one shot away.”

How to win free United tickets

United Airlines announced the new “Your Shot to Fly” contest, which asks for MileagePlus members to upload the COVID-19 vaccination records to United’s app, Fox Business reports.

  • Those who do so by June 22 can win a roundtrip flight for two passengers to literally “anywhere in the world United flies,” the airline said, according to Fox Business.
  • The airlines said it will give away 30 pairs of tickets through June.

And then, on July 1, the airline will give five reward members a chance to win free flights for a year for themselves and another passenger, CBS News reports.

White House’s COVID-19 vaccine effort

The move comes as the White House has started to encourage businesses to offer incentives so people will get the COVID-19 vaccine, according to USA Today.

As I wrote for the Deseret News, the White House recently teamed up with dating apps like Tinder and Hinge for promoting the COVID-19 vaccine. Now, people using dating apps can get extra matches and more perks if they can prove that they’ve gotten the coronavirus vaccine.

President Joe Biden has announced a goal to get at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot in the arms of 70% of U.S. adults by July 4, according to USA Today.
