The college football season kicks off next Saturday, but a high school football tripleheader will take centerstage this Saturday at Corner Canyon High School featuring some of the top talent in the state.

Corner Canyon hosts the inaugural Charger Kickoff Classic on Saturday, with the three games on tap in rare high school football action on Saturday in the Beehive State.

The day kicks off at 11 a.m. with Brighton (1-0) facing Syracuse (1-0). Brighton is led by highly-recruited linebacker Lander Barton, who will be a regular fixture playing Saturday college football in the years to come, but he’ll get an early taste of Saturday afternoon football this week.

The second game features Kearns (1-0) taking on Timpview (0-1) at 3 p.m.

Timpview will be looking to bounce back from a Week 1 loss to Lone Peak, while Kearns will look to build on its big win over Box Elder.

The final game kicks off at 7 p.m. and features East (0-1) at top-ranked Corner Canyon (1-0), which will look to extend its 41-game winning streak. New Corner Canyon quarter Devin Brown — a USC commit — threw for 451 yards and eight touchdowns in the Chargers’ easy Week 1 win over Farmington. Star receiver Cody Hagen hauled in seven of his passes for 167 yards and four touchdowns.

“We are looking forward to hosting so many of Utah’s top teams in our first-ever Charger Kickoff Classic. Our goal was to target who we felt were some of the best returning teams in Utah in 2021. We definitely succeeded,” said tournament director Rob Geertsen. “Every team is ranked in the Deseret News Top 25 polls. To be able to get so many great teams in one event, we are really excited about it.”

Tickets to the event are $10, with admission covering all three games. The first two games will be live streamed on, and the final game on
