Legendary actor Ed Asner, who starred on the “Mary Tyler Moore” show, died over the weekend. He was 91.
Asner’s official Twitter account shared the news on Sunday.
- “We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully. Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head- Goodnight dad. We love you,” the account’s post read.
What are Asner’s biggest roles?
Asner had a number of legendary roles over the years, starring as WJM-TV news director Grant in the “Mary Tyler Moore” show. He also had his own series, called “Lou Grant,” from 1977 to 1982, per CNN, which was a spinoff comedy series.
The show “tackled serious issues that included, in the first season alone, domestic abuse, gang rivalries, neo-Nazi groups, nursing-home scandals and cults,” according to The New York Times.
- Asner had minor roles in TV series like “Mad About You,” “ER,” “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” and one episode of “The X-Files.”
