The delta variant of the coronavirus continues to rage throughout the country, and now people across all levels of vaccination status are experiencing symptoms of the virus.

Dr. Tim Spector, professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London and co-founder of the ZOE COVID Symptom Study, recently revealed that there are different common symptoms for people who have had one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and who have not been vaccinated.

The symptoms — which were reported by infected patients in the ZOE COVID Symptom Study — were outlined in Spector’s Twitter post. We’ve decided to share those symptoms in a quick breakdown below. You can view Spector’s chart here.

COVID-19 symptoms for those who received two doses of the vaccine

  1. Headache
  2. Runny nose
  3. Sore throat
  4. Sneezing
  5. Loss of smell

COVID-19 symptoms for those who received one dose of the vaccine

  1. Headache
  2. Runny nose
  3. Sore throat
  4. Sneezing
  5. Persistent cough

COVID-19 symptoms for the unvaccinated

  1. Headache
  2. Sore throat
  3. Runny nose
  4. Fever
  5. Persistent cough

These symptoms are the top symptoms for each level of vaccination. You can see there isn’t much difference between the groups — except for the cough becoming more common among those who have one or zero doses of vaccination. Of course, the symptoms for a vaccinated person tend to be less severe than those who have been unvaccinated. These symptoms can help you see if you’ve been infected with the coronavirus, even if you’ve had a dose of the vaccine.

Can you get the delta variant if you’re fully vaccinated?

Yes. As I wrote for the Deseret News, fully vaccinated people have been getting infected with the delta variant of the coronavirus. Sneezing appears to be one of the top indicators that those who have been fully vaccinated and have been infected with COVID-19.

  • “Our data shows that people who had been vaccinated and then tested positive for COVID-19 were more likely to report sneezing as a symptom compared with those without a jab,” researchers wrote, according to The Hill.

Researchers suggest people “stay alert to the 20 symptoms of the disease, whether or not you’ve been vaccinated.”
