Tim Burton. Johnny Depp. And Blood. Again!

Johnny Depp's name has been attached for quite some time to a movie version of "Dark Shadows," the fondly remembered, horror soap opera that spawned both an ill-fated 1991 television revival and two movie spin-offs (1970's "House of Dark Shadows" and 1971's "Night of Dark Shadows.")

However, the project hasn't made much progress until now. The Ain't It Cool News Web site reports that screenwriter John August ("Charlie's Angels") is now scripting the movie and that he says the director will be Tim Burton.

Depp and Burton have collaborated on six movies. Most recently, they teamed up for the blood-soaked movie version of the musical "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street." And August scripted both "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and the animated "Corpse Bride." So this movie, if it happens, looks promising ... at least on paper.

Oh, and as for whom Depp will be playing in the movie, it's likely he'll star as Barnabas Collins, the vampire antihero who was originally played by Jonathan Frid.
