New films in theaters this week:

--"Alps" (not rated), an IMAX format documentary looking at the European mountain range. (Playing exclusively at Clark Planetarium)

-- "Kung Fu Panda" (rated PG), an animated comedy starring the voices of Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman and others.

-- "Standard Operating Procedure" (rated R), Errol Morris' documentary feature about Abu Ghraib prisoner abuses.

-- "Stuck" (rated R), a gory dark comedy based on a real-life, hit-and-run accident incident.

-- "You Don't Mess With the Zohan" (rated PG-13), a comedy starring Adam Sandler as an Israeli commando turned hairdresser.

Of the documentaries, only the visually stunning "Alps" will really appeal to audiences. (It's in the 2-D format instead of the gimmicky 3-D one.)

And as for the major studio films, Sandler's "Zohan" is more tiresome schtick and offensive stereotypes. However, "Kung Fu Panda" is surprisingly charming and, despite some violent content, is pretty family friendly.

Which of these films, if any of them, are you planning to see this weekend?
