In my movie-reviewing travels I've met a lot of nice people. One of the friendliest and nicest of this bunch is Milo Hobbs.
I was saddened to hear about the health problems facing Hobbs, a part-time Brewvies Cinema Pub employee. He was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer and is currently undergoing treatment.
However, Hobbs does not have the needed insurance or funds to pay for his treatment, so his friends and co-workers have organized a benefit program titled "Rise Above: Milo Hobbs Cancer Benefit," which will be held Jan. 22 at Burts Tiki Lounge, 726 S. State.

"Rise Above" will feature musical performances from local acts Breaux, Dubbed and Negative Charge. The event will be hosted by X-96 deejay Kerry Jackson, and it will also feature a silent auction (for gift certificates and goods donated by Brewvies, Iris Piercing Studio, Lost Art Tattoo, Goodtimes Tattoo, Pib's Exchange, Nobrow Coffee, Velo City Bags, Coffee Garden, Milosport, Grimmleigh Creations, Geek Show Podcast, Big Deluxe Tattoo and others).
All proceeds from "Rise Above" ($10 cover charge, which includes one raffle ticket) will go to the Milo Hobbs Cancer Treatment Fund.
Both Brewvies Cimema Pub and Burts Tiki Lounge are private clubs, open to members 21 and older. For more information on the fund raiser or to make contributions to the Milo Hobbs Cancer Treatment Fund, browse
