“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” director J.J. Abrams said his new “Star Wars” film will tell the complete story of Leia Organa that he always intended to tell.

Abrams told Total Film Magazine that the footage seen in the new film will work perfectly with archived content that they’ve wrapped in. Moviegoers shouldn’t notice any difference between the old and new footage.

He said the movie will tell Leia’s story as they meant to tell it.

“There are scenes where she’s interacting with other characters in a way that is uncanny,” Abrams said. “Hopefully, if it works, it will be an invisible thing and if you didn’t know, you would never know. But we got to tell the story with Leia that we would have told had Carrie lived. And that’s kind of incredible.”

Yes, but: Per ComicBook.com, previous reports suggested Leia’s story would take a much different turn than what was originally intended.

Fisher’s brother, Todd Fischer, told “Good Morning America” that there will be new footage of Leia in the new movie. They’re not just outtakes.

“There’s a lot of minutes of footage,” he said. “I don’t mean just outtakes. This is unused, new content that could be woven into the storyline. That’s what’s going to give everybody such a great kick. It’s going to look like it was meant to be. Like it was shot yesterday.”
